Ss2Q Quality Institute Project

A cross-sector consultation showed a clear preference for the establishment of an independent body to oversee the quality and accreditation of self-management. As a result, Expert Patients Programme Community Interest Company (EPP CIC) and leading voluntary sector providers - including Arthritis Care, Diabetes UK and Macmillan Cancer Support - have agreed to work together to provide collective support and resources to lay the foundations for the establishment of an independent Quality Institute (QI). This will be responsible for developing standards and accreditation processes for a range of self-management programmes, including Ss2Q and beyond. A QI Steering Group has been established to take forward this work. In addition to the four providers above, membership of the QI Steering Group includes representation from the Lay Led Self-Management Network, volunteer tutors and PCTs.

QI Development Coordinator Jane Cooper has written a first year Project Report that describes what has been achieved to date. She also coordinated consultations feeding into the Quality Institute Business Plan, which she has now produced – click here to view/download the Business Plan executive summary. Further details on both are included in the winter issue (No. 3) of the Ss2Q e-newsletter.  Members of the QI Project Steering Group can be contacted via info@ss2q.co.uk.
