Welcome to the first e-news bulletin from Self Care Connect. These monthly emails will keep you up to date with developments on the Self Care Connect site and highlight new materials and resources that have been uploaded.

This month Helena Jordan highlights how self care has been in the spotlight in January.

Self Care: A priority for 2008
Self Care has been in the news and is set to feature predominantly on the Government's healthcare policy map for 2008 and beyond.

In early January, Gordon Brown, in his first major speech on the NHS since becoming prime minister, set out his vision of a health service that is personal to the patient and more focused on preventing disease. Self care, supported by information and advice from healthcare professionals was a major theme of his speech.

We take a look at the new plans announced by Mr Brown and how self care is moving up the government's healthcare agenda.

Self Care Connect gathers a great following

We are delighted that over 800 people have already registered on Self Care Connect and are using the site. Over the next few months we want more and more of you to upload resources to the site or tell us about links to useful self care information on the web.

We are creating an easy-to-use tool to help you upload your information which will be available shortly on the site.

We are keen to spread the news about Self Care Connect and need your help. Every person who recommends Self Care Connect to a friend who subsequently registers on the site will be entered into a free draw to win a basket of fruit.

Click here and enter the name and email address of a friend who you think would be interested in Self Care Connect.

They will receive a copy of this e-news bulletin and some information about Self Care Connect to help them decide if they would like to register. If they decide to register then your name will go into the draw for a basket of fruit!
