June 2008
This month we would like to let you know what's been happening with Self Care Connect and about our plans for the future.

The future of Self Care Connect |
Self Care Connect was launched by the Working in Partnership Programme (WiPP) in October 2007 to provide a dynamic resource and networking site for people and organisations interested in self care. As you may be aware, WiPP was established as part of the GMS contract arrangements in 2004 to provide support for primary care over four years. At the end of June, the four year programme comes to an end.
There are now over 1,200 registered users on the site - and it is a community that is growing every week. To support this community it is crucial that resources such as Self Care Connect and the Self Care for You training packages continue to thrive and grow.

We are delighted to announce that the Expert Patient Programme Community Interest Company (EPP CIC) will take our legacy forward.
From the end of June 2008, EPP CIC will take ownership of Self Care Connect and the Self Care for You/Self Care for Primary Care training resources. Self Care Connect will still look and work in the same way - you will still be able to search for useful self care resources or materials to support your activities and, of course, upload your own materials to the site to share with others.
On behalf of the WiPP self care team we would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the development and roll out of our self care initiatives over the past four years. We are delighted that EPP CIC will take on the challenge to drive the self care agenda forward and wish them and you success in all your future self care activities.

Self Care for You & Self Care for Primary Care
In addition to Self Care Connect, the Self Care for You & Self Care for Primary Care training programmes are among the most important self care initiatives of the past four years.
Self Care for You is a self care skills training programme made up of six activities to help people to engage in self care. These activities introduce participants to a variety of ways to self care and outline theories relevant to self care. The short activities and discussions help them to apply new learning to their own personal experiences and help them make important changes to their health behaviours.
The results of the course can be impressive as employees from the Bradford City Council Parks Team can testify. Watch their video here.
Self Care for Primary Care is a programme designed to encourage health professionals to learn to promote self care and introduce self care interventions for common health conditions in their patients. The training programme is aimed at supporting PCT and social care organisations and also general practice and pharmacy teams to discuss the importance of self care and implement strategies to encourage better self care support services for patients.
All these resources are now available on Self Care Connect. Find out more about these training programmes and download the materials here. |

Keeping you informed
As part of our handover of the site to EPP CIC we will be providing them with our database of Self Care Connect users.
These details will only be used to let you have emails and e-news bulletins on issues relating to self care. You can still unsubscribe yourself at any time from receiving this news bulletin and similar emails by clicking the link in the footer.
If you would prefer your details to be removed entirely from the database before it is passed to EPP CIC, please send an email to remove@selfcareconnect.co.uk and we will ensure that your data are deleted. Please bear in mind that you will then no longer be able to access most of the content on the Self Care Connect website.
